2 Killed, 5 Injured in Chico Truck Accident on Highway 99 near Neal Road
Chico, California (June 12, 2020) – One of the two victims who died following a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 99 at Neal Road in Chico, Wednesday night, has been identified as 55-year-old Lupe Ortiz of Los Molinos.
As per the report, a truck operated by 22-year-old Jobanjit Singh from Sacramento northbound on Highway 99 slammed into the rear of a 2015 Honda Accord at around 12:47 p.m., on June 10.
Due to the impact, the Honda Accord crashed into a 1995 Honda Civic, a 1994 Buick, a 2004 Honda Odyssey, and a 2019 Chevrolet at the Chico junction.
The initial report indicated that Singh failed to stop at the intersection at the time of the collision.
Officials declared Ortiz and one other unidentified person riding in the Honda Accord dead at the scene.
Five other victims sustained unspecified injuries following the wreck. All patients were rushed to an area hospital for further treatment.
The mishap resulted in the closure of Highway 99 between Southgate Lane and Durham Pentz Road as investigation and clean-up took place.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected factors in the accident. An investigation into the crash is underway.
