Sgt. James Anton Seriously Injured in Fatal Kern County Car Accident on Highway 14
Sergeant James Anton Hospitalized after Head-On Crash on Highway 14 near Robbers Roost in Kern County
Kern County, California (December 8, 2019) – Sgt. James Anton has been identified as one of the two people who were injured in a fatal traffic accident that occurred early Saturday morning in eastern Kern County.
The deadly crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol officers at about 2:04 a.m. Saturday, December 7 on Highway 14, just south of Robbers Roost.
According to the CHP, a 2015 Toyota Tacoma collided head-on with a Sheriff’s Chevrolet Tahoe patrol vehicle for an undetermined reason on southbound Highway 14.
Anton, who was the driver of the Sheriff’s vehicle, was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital with major injuries.
The driver of the Tacoma, identified as Fernando Ramirez, 33, of Burbank, and his front-seat passenger, identified as Michael John Ferialdi, 33, also of Burbank, both died at the scene.
A third person in the Tacoma, a 30-year-old Burbank man, was able to get out of the car under his own power and was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital with unspecified injuries.
It is undetermined if alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
