Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by Two Vehicles on East 7th Street in Long Beach

37-Year-old Long Beach Man Killed in East 7th Street Pedestrian Accident near Ultimo Avenue

Long Beach, California (March 18, 2020) – According to a local news source, a pedestrian died after being struck by two vehicles at an intersection in Long Beach Monday night.

Police said a 37-year-old Long Beach man was walking across East 7th Street and Ultimo Avenue when a vehicle traveling westbound on 7th Street, struck him just after 10:00 p.m. March 16.

After the impact, the man was ejected into the eastbound lanes and was also struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 61-year-old Long Beach woman.

The man was found lying on the roadway by emergency crews. He was declared dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

The driver of the second vehicle stopped at the scene and cooperated with the police. According to the authorities, alcohol, drugs or distracted driving were not considered factors on her part.

The first driver fled the scene after hitting the pedestrian. There was no description of the hit-and-run vehicle.

Police Department’s Collision Investigation Detail Detective S. Fox asked anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at 562-570-7355.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
