Bakersfield, California (May 13, 2020) – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the person who was killed Tuesday night in a head-on collision near the First Baptist Church Edison in southeast Bakersfield.
Jarnail Singh, 58, of Bakersfield, died in the crash that happened at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the intersection of South Union Avenue and Curnow Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a silver Nissan collided head-on with a pick-up truck at the intersection. Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated a man who was trapped in the wreckage.
The CHP said two people were in the pick-up truck, and three were in the Nissan.
Singh, who was riding as a passenger in one of the involved vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other injured parties were transported to Kern Medical for treatment of their injuries. However, the exact number of victims and their names were not immediately disclosed.
According to the CHP, both vehicles sustained major damages following the crash.
Authorities closed all southbound lanes of Union Avenue as they investigated the accident.
