27-Year-Old Diana Schalk Killed in Redding Head-On DUI Crash on SR 299 near Grizzly Gulch Road

Redding, California (February 3, 2020) – 27-year-old Diana Elizabeth Schalk of Pembroke has been identified as the victim killed in an alleged DUI head-on collision that happened near Whiskeytown in Redding last week on Wednesday.

The fatal crash occurred on January 29, along State Route 299 near Grizzly Gulch Road, Shasta County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident involved a 1999 Toyota pickup truck driven by 42-year-old Hawk Blaze Bergstrom of Redding and a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck operated by Elizabeth Schalk.

The two vehicles collided head-on along the highway for undisclosed reasons.

Schalk sustained severe injuries following the crash. She died at an area hospital where she was admitted after the accident.

Meanwhile, Hawk Bergstrom was also hospitalized at Shasta Regional Medical Center with serious injuries sustained in the wreck.

Police later arrested Bergstrom on suspicion of DUI.

More details regarding the accident will be released after the CHP completes the investigation.
