John Scott ID’d as Pilot Killed in Contra Costa County Plane Crash at Byron Airport
Contra Costa County, California (May 12, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Saturday afternoon plane crash that killed a pilot in Contra Costa County.
The deadly crash occurred at around 1:20 p.m., on May 9, on a runway at Byron Airport.
As per the Federal Aviation Administration reports, the two-seat Bellanca 8GCBC plane, flown by John Scott, 68, of Concord, flipped over and caught fire on the edge of the runway.
The glider tow airplane was trailing a glider at the time of the crash.
Scott was the sole occupant of the plane and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The trailing glider landed safely, said the officials.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
