James Buchanan Hospitalized after Fatal Multi-Car Crash on Highway 1 in Ventura County
James Buchanan ID’d as 1 of 2 Injured Fatal Ventura County Car Accident on Highway 1 near Deer Creek Road
Ventura County, California (May 1, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Friday morning car crash that killed a man and left two others injured in Ventura County.
The crash happened on Highway 1 near Deer Creek Road at about 11:44 a.m., on May 1.
A 2002 Ford flatbed truck, driven by Ronald Baldonado, 61, was traveling southbound on Highway 1 when the Ford slowed down to turn left onto Deer Creek Road, according to the authorities.
A 2002 International box truck, driven by a 42-year-old man from Oxnard, for unknown reasons, crashed into the rear of the Ford.
The impact sent the Ford onto the northbound lane, where it crashed into a 2011 Subaru SUV, driven by James Buchanan, 76. The Subaru was traveling northbound on the highway at the time.
The Oxnard man died at the scene.
Buchanan was taken to Ventura County Medical Center medical treatment with major injuries. Baldonado suffered moderate injuries and was also transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.
The three cars sustained significant damages due to the mishap
Traffic on southbound and northbound lanes was stopped for about two hours.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the mishap is urged to call Ventura Area CHP at (805) 662-2640.
