2 Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries after San Francisco Pedestrian Accident at Mission and 23rd Streets
San Francisco, California (February 13, 2020) – Two pedestrians were hospitalized after being struck by a suspected drunk driver Wednesday afternoon at an intersection in the Mission District neighborhood, police said.
Authorities responded to the Mission Street and 23rd Street after a report of a pedestrian accident that occurred at about 4:20 p.m.
According to the police, a Toyota Prius was traveling westbound on 23rd Street when it turned right onto Mission Street against a red light and hit two pedestrians.
The Prius then drove onto the sidewalk and struck the rear of a Muni bus and a female passenger who was exiting the bus.
The two male pedestrians, ages 49 and 34, sustained critical injuries and were taken a hospital. The passenger on the bus complaint of pain and was evaluated at the scene.
The Prius driver and his passenger did stop to render aid and fled the scene. They later returned to the scene and were detained. The driver was suspected of being impaired.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
